A Caring & Understanding Dental Practice
We’ve created a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for you on a range of dental care topics. Don’t forget that you can always get in touch with any questions you may have. We’re a caring and understanding dental pratice and we’re here to help!
For information on the particular types of services Central Leederville Dental offers, please visit the Our Services page.
What will happen at my first appointment (and what about parking)?
As a new patient at Central Leederville Dental, we’ll take the time to get to know you and what you need. This will include examining your teeth, collecting any your previous dental records and explaining the different types of treatment that might be suitable for you.
You’ll leave your appointment with a clear understanding of our dental plan and an estimate of the benefits you may receive from your health fund. You’ll also gain access to our patient portal, which has helpful information for you to download.
As for parking, priority bays are available outside our practice. Before your appointment, you’ll receive all of the relevant information in an SMS, including the gate code. A handy map is also featured on our Contact Us page.
Which health funds do you accept? And how much will I get back from my insurance?
We accept all health funds. The difference between our treatment costs and your health fund benefits will depend on your specific coverage. One of our friendly receptionists can provide you with an estimate.
We’ve made the decision to be independent rather than aligned with a specific provider. This enables us to control the quality of our services and tailor our treatments to your needs.
Central Leederville Dental also offers payment plans for existing patients who are concerned with the cost of their treatment. Please feel free to ask us for more information.
How much does Central Leederville Dental cost?
Our exact fees will depend on which of our services you require. We take the time to figure out your specific needs, talk you through the various options and create a customised treatment plan for you. You’ll always know what to expect regarding our costs.
At Central Leederville Dental, we also offer payment plans for patients who are experiencing financial difficulties. Please feel free to ask us for more information.
I’m worried about coming to the dentist. What can you do to help me?
We’ll take the time to understand what your concerns or fears are, so we can figure out the best way to help you – your comfort and wellbeing are our priority. Our dentists, Michael and Han, will explain what to expect from our procedures and can use a variety of strategies to ensure your experience is as pleasant as possible.
At our dental practice, we create an atmosphere of care and trust with our patients. Some techniques our patients benefit from include sedation, music and videos for distraction, blankets and pillows, and an incremental approach. We’re also happy to discuss other options for what can work for you.
Can I use my Health Care Card, Veteran Card or Medicare Card?
At Central Leederville Dental, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive practice and are part of the following dental health initiatives:
- Health Care Card – you can be referred to us as your preferred dentist under the Government Dental Scheme.
- Veteran Card – we’re proud to provide dental care to Australian veterans via the Commonwealth Government’s program. Please visit Australian Government Department of Veteran’s Affairs for more information.
- Medicare Care (children only) – you may be able to access subsidised dental care for any children aged 2–17 through the government’s Medicare Child Dental Benefits Scheme.
Additionally, we offer discounts for university students so they (and their teeth!) are looked after until they’re in the workforce. Existing patients are also welcome to enquire about our payment plans.
How often should I visit the dentist? And why is regularly seeing the dentist important?
Prevention is at the heart of our dental care philosophy. We recommend seeing us every 6 months, though this will depend on your specific needs and treatment plan. For some patients it will be less often and others it will be more often.
Seeing us regularly will help prevent many issues and minimise the need for more extensive treatments. Plus, your oral health has a huge effect on your overall wellbeing so early intervention is very important.
You’ll be pleased to know that we send out appointment reminders via SMS, phone and postcards – whichever you prefer.
Do you perform emergency dentistry?
We provide emergency dental care for our existing patients. If you’re in need during business hours, we’ll squeeze you in wherever possible. If it’s after hours, we’ll figure out what’s needed and either see you immediately; provide you with self-care instructions until we can see you the next day; or refer you to a 24-hour dental clinic if your needs are outside of our services.
What happens if I can’t make my appointment?
At Central Leederville Dental, we understand that unforeseeable things happen, so we usually don’t charge cancellation fees. All we ask is that you give as at least 48 hours’ notice whenever possible.
Please note that we do reserve the right to charge cancellation fees for patients who continuously reschedule. If you’re anxious about visiting the dentist, please talk to us and we can figure out the best way to ensure you’re comfortable.
How do I know if my teeth are healthy? And how can I improve my oral hygiene and prevent cavities?
Toothache, sensitive teeth, chipped teeth, loose teeth, bleeding gums, bad breath, swelling and jaw pain are all common signs of unhealthy teeth and gums. If you have any of these symptoms, please come and see us. It’s also important to remember that cavities and other oral health issues aren’t always obvious.
To ensure healthy teeth and gums, we recommend:
- Brushing your teeth twice a day
- Flossing once a day
- Using an electric toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste
- Seeing us regularly (every 6 months, on average)
- Having a healthy diet – especially limiting the amount of sugar you eat and drink
- Washing your mouth out with water after you consume anything sugary or acidic
- Waiting 30 minutes after you eat before brushing your teeth
- Drinking water rather than soft drinks
Talk to us about any concerns or issues you have and we’ll make recommendations on what you can do to improve your oral health.
How do I care for my child’s teeth? And at what age should I start bringing my child to the dentist?
Central Leederville Dental is a family friendly dental practice. To care for your child’s teeth, we recommend:
- Introducing good dental routines early (e.g. brushing teeth twice a day; washing their mouth out with water after sugary or acidic foods)
- Regular dental check-ups at a family friendly practice like Central Leederville Dental, once all of their baby teeth have emerged or if you have any concerns
- Ensuring they have a healthy diet – especially limiting sugar
- Protecting their teeth during sport with a mouthguard
- Using a soft toothbrush
- Familiarising your little one with the dentist early on, even if it’s only watching you have your teeth cleaned
We’ve helped many youngsters get used to the dentist over the years! We spend quite a bit of time making sure kids’ early experiences are positive, such as counting their teeth, showing them how to brush, letting them play with some of the instruments, putting videos on while we’re cleaning their teeth and handing out stickers as a reward.
Central Leederville Dental cares for the whole family and we have many kids, parents and grandparents coming to see us regularly.
Can I refer people to Central Leederville Dental?
Please do – we love new patients! Feel free to refer us to your family, friends, workmates, neighbours and anyone you think will benefit from our services.
